Nollywood filmmaker Wumi Toriola has announced her first cinema release with the film “Queen Lateefah,” featuring two-time AMVCA winner Broda Shaggi. Toriola, serving as executive producer, shared the news on Instagram on May 15, 2024, expressing excitement about the project and its creative team.
She wrote:

“Queen Lateefah” is directed by Adeoluwa Owu, known as Captain Degzy, who previously directed the highest-grossing Nollywood film, “A Tribe Called Judah,” which earned ₦1.4 billion.

The film stars notable actors such as Kunle Remi, Femi Adebayo, Nancy Isime, Bimbo Manuel, Elvina Ibru, Enioluwa, and Gbugbemi Ejeye. It is a co-production between Wumi Toriola Productions and Captain of the Sea Productions. However, details about the film’s plot and release date are yet to be revealed.
Toriola shares executive producer duties with Ope Ajayi, while Judith Audu-Foght is credited as a producer. Toriola’s career began with her first acting role in “Odunfa Caucus” in 2019, and she produced her first film, “Ajewunmi,” in 2015.
She has won the Fastest Rising Actress (Yoruba) award at the City People Entertainment Awards and has appeared in popular movies such as “Battle on Buka Street,” “Alakada Reloaded,” “Aburo,” and “Ada Omo Daddy.” She will also feature in “Queen Lateefah.”
