Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who administered treatment to the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has appeared before the Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos.

During her testimony, she provided a detailed account of the events leading up to Mohbad’s final moments, including the medications she administered and the singer’s reaction to them.

Her appearance in court comes amid heightened scrutiny over the circumstances surrounding the singer’s sudden death.

Ogedengbe recounted that she was contacted by Ayobami Sodaiq, also known as Spending, on September 12, 2023, to treat Mohbad at his Lekki residence. Responding to the request, she arrived at approximately 2:30 pm and was met with the sight of a swollen cut on the singer’s right hand.

To address the wound and prevent infection, she administered a tetanus injection to his upper arm before proceeding with further treatment.

Considering Mohbad’s medical history, particularly his history of ulcers, Ogedengbe made the decision to avoid using diclofenac, a common anti-inflammatory drug that could potentially irritate his stomach.

Instead, she opted for paracetamol and injected him with a diluted 4ml dose. This was followed by a 10ml dose of ceftriaxone, an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections.

She stated that she administered the ceftriaxone slowly to reduce any potential adverse reactions.

However, shortly after receiving the antibiotic injection, Mohbad exhibited an immediate negative reaction. Ogedengbe testified that he began vomiting and developed goosebumps, a sign of possible drug intolerance or an allergic reaction.

Concerned, she quickly alerted his wife, Omowunmi, but was reassured that Mohbad typically reacted in this manner whenever he received injections. According to her, Omowunmi proceeded to take the singer to the bathroom and poured water on his head in an attempt to soothe him.

Despite these efforts, Mohbad’s condition continued to deteriorate, prompting Ogedengbe and Sodiq to rush to a nearby pharmacy to obtain additional medication that could counteract his reaction.

However, they encountered delays at the pharmacy, which prolonged their return to the house. By the time they got back, the situation had worsened significantly. They found Mohbad outside, surrounded by those attempting to transport him to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

Unfortunately, transportation challenges further complicated the emergency. Due to the unavailability of a vehicle and heavy traffic congestion, the only viable option was to take the singer to the hospital on a motorcycle.

By the time he arrived at the medical facility, he was declared dead on arrival, marking a tragic and shocking turn of events. The sudden nature of his passing has since sparked widespread speculation and demands for justice from the public.

Ogedengbe also described what transpired at the hospital, noting that the medical personnel were initially hesitant to treat Mohbad upon arrival, which contributed to further confusion.

Once he was officially pronounced dead, his body was transported back home at around 8 pm. Following this, Ogedengbe, along with others, visited the police station in an attempt to obtain a death certificate, as part of the required legal procedures.

Amid ongoing investigations, the Lagos State Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) has declared that both Ogedengbe and Sodaiq will be prosecuted for reckless and negligent acts.

The case has raised significant concerns about medical negligence and emergency response protocols in Nigeria.

The next hearing at the Coroner’s Court has been scheduled for March 21, where more details surrounding Mohbad’s untimely death are expected to emerge.
