Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, has found himself at the center of controversy after a sarcastic remark about singer Davido’s upcoming album was misinterpreted by fans.
The outspoken rapper, known for his witty and unfiltered style, took to his X handle to address Davido directly, making what he believed to be a humorous suggestion about the album’s release.
Instead of dropping it under his own label, 30 Billion Gang (30BG), Odumodublvck jokingly suggested that Davido should release it under Kcee and E-Money’s label, Five Star Music. The remark, intended as a playful nod to the album’s quality, quickly sparked mixed reactions from fans.
In his post, Odumodublvck wrote, “Davido, I trust your vision and all. But this album is not meant to be released under 30BG. This album is meant to drop under Kcee and E-Money. I rest my case.” While his words were meant to highlight the album as a “five-star” project, some fans failed to catch the sarcasm and took offense.
Many interpreted his statement as an attempt to undermine Davido’s label and belittle the highly anticipated album. The backlash was swift, with some fans accusing the rapper of being disrespectful, while others defended him, insisting that his comment was simply a creative way of praising Davido’s work.
Despite the misunderstanding, Davido’s fifth studio album, 5ive, remains one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Set to arrive in April under Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) and Sony Music, the album has already generated significant buzz. Fans are eager to see what the Afrobeat superstar has in store, especially after the success of his previous projects.
Davido has remained silent on Odumodublvck’s comment, choosing instead to focus on promoting his new music. Whether he found the remark amusing or took it as a slight remains unknown, but the controversy has only fueled more conversations around the album.
So far, 5ive has been preceded by three lead singles, each offering a glimpse into the album’s diverse sound. Awuke, featuring YG Marley, blends Afrobeats with reggae influences, while Funds, a collaboration with Odumodublvck and Chike, delivers a fusion of rap and melodious vocals. Be There Still, another standout track, showcases Davido’s signature storytelling and heartfelt lyrics.
As the release date approaches, fans continue to speculate on what the full project will sound like and whether Odumodublvck’s comment will remain a mere joke or stir up deeper tensions within the industry.
