A Peaky Blinders film has been announced, with Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy returning to star as Tommy Shelby. Murphy expressed his excitement, stating, “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me.”
Netflix revealed the news by sharing a photo of the script titled “A Peaky Blinders Film.”
The film continues from the BBC show created by Steven Knight, which ran for six series from 2013 to 2022. Tom Harper, the director of season one, will helm the film.
Murphy said it was “very gratifying” to reunite with Knight and Harper, promising that the film is “one for the fans.” He will also co-produce the film.

Knight expressed his enthusiasm, calling the movie “an explosive chapter” in the Peaky Blinders story and promising a “no holds barred” approach.
The original series followed the Shelby family, a gang rising in post-World War I Birmingham.Production for the film will begin in Birmingham in September, with the storyline set to take the Shelby family into the Second World War.
Murphy’s portrayal of Shelby significantly boosted his profile after roles in films such as The Dark Knight, Inception, and 28 Days Later.
He recently won numerous awards, including an Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Screen Actors Guild award for his role in Oppenheimer, released in 2023.
