Popular street singer Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, was arrested by police in Lagos for allegedly failing to pay the remaining balance on a G-Wagon vehicle he purchased. Portable reportedly bought the vehicle for ₦27 million but only paid ₦13 million.
The arrest took place in the Abule Egba area on Tuesday, confirmed by police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin.
A viral video showed Portable scaling a gate to avoid arrest, followed by another video depicting him being handcuffed and forcibly placed into a police vehicle.
In the background, a woman identifying herself as the car dealer accused Portable of threatening her when she demanded payment of the debt.
The police expect Portable’s lawyers to appear on Wednesday, and the singer might be taken to court depending on the outcome of the discussions with his legal team.
This incident follows a previous encounter with the police in April 2023, when Portable was arrested in Ogun State on charges of assault and theft. He was arraigned and remanded but released after meeting bail conditions.
