Nigerian street-hop artist Portable has addressed recent rumors and reports circulating online, suggesting that he is serving a prison sentence.
In a detailed statement released on his official Instagram page on May 1, 2025, Portable took the opportunity to clarify that he is not incarcerated, contrary to misleading information.
The artist firmly stated, “Amid recent online misleading reports suggesting that Portable has been sentenced to prison for three months, we would like to officially set the record straight: Portable is NOT in prison, has NOT been arrested, and is NOT serving any sentence.”
With this declaration, he aimed to correct the misinformation and reassure his fans about his ongoing career and freedom.
In the same post, Portable further emphasized that all of his previous and ongoing legal matters had been resolved with the relevant authorities.
He made it clear that despite the circulating rumors, he is a free man, continuing his work as an artist and staying active in the music industry.
“I am not in prison. I am a free man, working, creating music, and preparing to thrill my fans globally,” he declared, adding that the period of legal challenges had been a time of reflection, learning, and growth for him.
Portable expressed his commitment to becoming a better artist and a more positive role model for his generation.
Portable also shared his personal resolve to keep moving forward, stating that he was fully available for upcoming shows, concerts, brand partnerships, and appearances worldwide.
He reiterated his dedication to his music career, revealing his desire to be a positive influence through his art and actions. “This period has been a journey of reflection, learning, and growth,” he said, signaling his readiness to continue his artistic journey and contribute positively to society.
The artist also assured fans that he remains focused on his future and is committed to improving himself both as an artist and as a person.
This clarification from Portable comes after a recent court ruling on April 29, 2025, where he was found guilty of two counts of assault related to a 2022 incident in Ogun State.
The court sentenced him to three months in prison, but the sentence came with an alternative: a ₦30,000 fine. Portable promptly paid the fine, thereby avoiding imprisonment.
This legal matter, which had sparked widespread attention, was resolved in favor of the artist’s continued freedom, and his statement highlights that he has moved past this issue and remains active in his career.
In addition to the assault charges, Portable had been arrested earlier in April, on the 13th, in Abeokuta. The arrest was in connection with allegations of criminal defamation against veteran fuji musician Saheed Osupa.
Portable was accused of defamation, threats to life, and incitement, following a petition that led to his detention. After the arrest, Portable was transferred to Ilorin for further interrogation, but he has since been released and cleared to continue his work.
With both legal matters behind him, Portable is now focused on his music and personal growth, and he remains dedicated to engaging with his fans and pursuing his career.
