Character Description:

Abike is a proud, talented makeup artist from Ibadan — a self-proclaimed “local champion” who has built her reputation through skill, grit, and experience. She is passionate about her craft and takes her professional image very seriously. Abike is expressive, emotional, quick to anger, but deeply professional.

Think: street-smart creative, proud artisan, emotional truth-teller with comic fire.

Performance Notes:

• Must be highly expressive with strong emotional delivery
• Must convincingly handle fast-paced, overlapping dialogue
• Ability to switch between defensive anger and comedic outrage
• Comfortable using Ibadan-Yoruba inflections and light Pidgin
• Improvisation skills are a plus
• Familiarity with Nollywood set culture is an advantage

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Create a short improv clip recreating an on-set argument with an actor
• The video clip should include name, age, height, location, and acting background

Self-tapes must have good lighting and clear audio.

SELF-TAPE AUDITION GUIDELINES

Please read carefully before submitting your audition.

GENERAL SETUP

Camera & Framing

• Use a phone or camera in landscape mode
• Frame from mid-chest to just above the head
• Keep the camera at eye level
• Do not move the camera during the take

Lighting

• Face a natural light source or use a soft light
• Avoid harsh shadows on the face
• Do not backlight yourself

Sound

• Record in a quiet space
• Ensure your voice is clear and audible
• Avoid background music or noise

PERFORMANCE INSTRUCTIONS

Tone & Style

• This is a comedy-drama, not a skit
• Play the character truthfully, even when exaggerated
• Avoid cartoon acting — energy should feel natural but bold

Pacing

• Dialogue should feel fast-paced when needed 
• Interrupt naturally when required by the character

Language

• Perform in 95% English
• Add light Nigerian Pidgin only where it feels organic
• Accents should be authentic (do not overdo it)

SLATE (VERY IMPORTANT)

Before your performance, please record a 10–15 second slate:Say clearly:“Hello, my name is ___, I am auditioning for the role of ___, I’m ___ years old, based in ___.”Then pause briefly and begin your performance.
