CHARACTER DESCRIPTION

Hilary is a seasoned voice-over artist who takes his craft very seriously. His voice is his brand, his pride, and his livelihood. In this episode, Hilary is furious after an ad agency chopped up his recorded jingle, making him sound ridiculous on radio. He feels professionally humiliated and emotionally bruised, yet tries to maintain composure—until the frustration bursts out.He is intelligent, articulate, slightly dramatic, and deeply sensitive about his reputation.

PERFORMANCE NOTES

• Must convincingly portray wounded pride, restrained anger, and comedic frustration
• Strong vocal control and clear diction are essential
• Ability to balance comedy with emotional sincerity

• Familiarity with voice-over work or studio environments is an advantage

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Please submit:

• A 1–2 minute dramatic monologue (View & Download Hilary's Monologue)
• A short clip demonstrating vocal clarity (can be a mock ad read or narration)
• Your self-tape should begin with name, age, height, location, and acting/voice-over background

Technical Requirements:
Good lighting, clean framing, and very clear audio are mandatory

SELF-TAPE AUDITION GUIDELINES

Please read carefully before submitting your audition.

GENERAL SETUP

Camera & Framing

• Use a phone or camera in landscape mode
• Frame from mid-chest to just above the head
• Keep the camera at eye level
• Do not move the camera during the take

Lighting

• Face a natural light source or use a soft light
• Avoid harsh shadows on the face
• Do not backlight yourself

Sound

• Record in a quiet space
• Ensure your voice is clear and audible
• Avoid background music or noise

PERFORMANCE INSTRUCTIONS

Tone & Style

• This is a comedy-drama, not a skit
• Play the character truthfully, even when exaggerated
• Avoid cartoon acting — energy should feel natural but bold

Pacing

• Dialogue should feel fast-paced
• Interrupt naturally when required by the character
  

Language

• Perform in 95% English
• Add light Nigerian Pidgin only where it feels organic
• Accents should be authentic (do not overdo it)

Before your performance, please record a 10–15 second slate:Say clearly:“Hello, my name is ___, I am auditioning for the role of ___, I’m ___ years old, based in ___.”Then pause briefly and begin your performance.
