R. Kelly’s attempt to challenge a 20-year prison sentence for child sex convictions has been denied by an appeals court, affirming the original ruling by a Chicago court.
He was convicted in 2022 on multiple charges related to child sexual abuse, including producing illicit images and enticing minors.
Kelly argued that the old statute of limitations in Illinois should apply, limiting prosecution to within 10 years of the alleged crimes, but the court rejected this, deeming it an evasion tactic.
He also sought separate trials for charges involving different accusers, citing video evidence, but this was dismissed. Despite plans to seek a US Supreme Court review, Kelly’s attorney expressed disappointment but vowed to continue legal efforts.
