A second man has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent following an incident at a London nightclub, which allegedly involved American singer Chris Brown.
The Metropolitan Police identified the suspect as 38-year-old Omololu Akinlolu, who is better known by his stage name HoodyBaby.
Akinlolu, an American rapper, will appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, facing charges related to an alleged assault that took place at the Tape nightclub in central London in February 2023.
Chris Brown, 36, was also charged with grievous bodily harm with intent in connection with the same incident.
Brown, who was arrested on Thursday at a Manchester hotel by detectives from the Metropolitan Police, has been remanded in custody by a judge in Manchester.
His next court appearance is scheduled for 13 June at Southwark Crown Court in London.
The charges against the Grammy-winning singer stem from an alleged attack on music producer Abraham Diaw, who is said to have been struck with a bottle during the altercation.
At a hearing on Friday at Manchester Magistrates’ Court, Brown sat quietly, observing the proceedings as prosecutor Hannah Nicholls presented a brief outline of the case.
Addressing the court, Nicholls alleged, “This was an unprovoked attack with a weapon in a nightclub full of people.”
According to her, the incident occurred in the midst of a crowded dance floor, causing shock and concern among patrons who witnessed it.
Brown, dressed in a simple outfit, spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth but did not enter a plea.
The court was told that the singer, known globally for hits like “Loyal,” “Run It,” and “Under the Influence,” would face a plea and trial preparation hearing in London on 13 June.
The case has drawn significant media attention, with reporters and fans gathering outside the courthouse.
The arrest and subsequent charge have thrown Brown’s upcoming UK tour into uncertainty.
The singer was set to perform in Manchester, Cardiff, London, Glasgow, and Birmingham in June and July.
His management has yet to issue a formal statement on how the legal case will impact these scheduled shows.
As for Omololu Akinlolu, his legal representation is expected to outline his defense at the upcoming hearing.
Like Brown, Akinlolu is a prominent figure in the American music industry, known for his collaborations with popular artists. His involvement in the case has further intensified public interest.
Fans of both Brown and HoodyBaby have taken to social media, expressing shock over the allegations.
Many are eager to see how the case unfolds, while others have called for calm and urged both artists to clear their names in court.
