Nigerian music star Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, popularly known as Skales, is once again enjoying the spotlight with his decade-old hit single, Shake Body.

Released ten years ago, the upbeat Afrobeats track has experienced a massive resurgence, going viral on TikTok within just two months.

The renewed attention has not only brought Skales back into mainstream conversation but has also propelled him to new milestones on digital streaming platforms.

The most significant of these achievements is reaching two million monthly listeners on Spotify in May 2025, just a month after crossing the one million mark for the first time in April.

The newfound success of Shake Body has extended beyond social media to the global music charts. The hit single recently debuted at #98 on the Global Spotify Viral Songs chart, marking a remarkable achievement for Skales as an independent artist.

Even more impressive is the fact that the song is currently charting on Spotify’s viral charts in over 30 countries, including Spain, Bulgaria, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and France.

These achievements are a testament to the song’s universal appeal and Skales’ staying power in the ever-evolving music industry.

Reacting to his remarkable comeback, the 34-year-old Kaduna-born singer took to his X page (formerly Twitter) to express his excitement and gratitude.

“Wow!!! This is mind-blowing for an independent artiste with full ownership… thank you, Jesus,” Skales wrote, his joy evident in his words.

For an artist who has experienced both the highs and lows of the music industry, the resurgence of Shake Body is a powerful reminder of the timeless nature of good music and the unpredictable magic of social media.

The resurgence of Shake Body can largely be attributed to an unexpected source—Spanish football sensation Lamine Yamal.

In March 2025, Yamal, alongside his teammates Nico Williams and Samu Omorodion, posted a TikTok video dancing to Shake Body to celebrate Spain’s victory over the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League.

The video quickly went viral, racking up over 180 million views and 16 million likes. With Yamal’s massive following of over 31 million on the platform, the song’s popularity soared almost overnight.

Lamine Yamal’s love for the song didn’t stop there. Just days later, he was seen dancing to Shake Body again, this time joined by FC Barcelona legend Gerard Piqué and popular Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos.

The continuous visibility of the track on high-profile TikTok accounts ensured that Skales’ hit single reached a fresh, global audience.

In fact, the connection between Skales and Yamal grew so strong that Skales was invited to perform at a celebration party with Yamal and his Barcelona teammate Alejandro Balde.

Riding on this wave of success, Skales has wasted no time in creating new music inspired by the moment.

The artist has teased a new track titled Dance Like Lamine Yamal, a tribute to the teenage football superstar whose love for Shake Body sparked its global revival.

As Skales continues to enjoy his renewed fame, he remains a powerful example of how social media and unexpected endorsements can breathe new life into a timeless classic.
