Nigerian rapper Darlington Okoye, widely known as Speed Darlington, has come out to share his side of the story after his defeat to controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, in a highly anticipated celebrity boxing match.
The bout, which took place on Saturday morning at the Balmoral Events Centre in Lagos, ended unexpectedly after just one round, with Portable emerging victorious. Speed Darlington had to exit the ring in bandages and was taken away in an ambulance, sparking concern from fans and spectators alike.
Following the fight, Speedy took to social media to explain what, in his opinion, went wrong. In a candid and emotional video, he claimed that black magic, or juju, might have played a part in his loss.
“My shoulder come dislocate, I no know wetin happen, whether na the juju wey Portable carry come,” he said. Speed Darlington emphasized that he wasn’t tired and felt physically prepared for the match.
However, something unusual happened mid-fight that left him confused and unable to continue.
Admitting that the injury may have been caused by his own aggressive swings, Speedy nonetheless remained suspicious of the strange turn of events in the ring.
“I neva tire o, my shoulder just comot. It wasn’t a sharp pain but I couldn’t use it anymore, it was out of commission,” he added.
Despite the injury, he said that medics inside the ambulance managed to pop his shoulder back in place, although he was warned that continuing the fight might have resulted in surgery.
Speed Darlington expressed frustration not just about the fight’s outcome but also about losing the prize money. He revealed that he had already made plans to invest the winnings in a project close to his heart.
“The thing wey dey pain me now na all that money wey dey go carry give Portable,” he lamented. “Me I wan build swimming pool for my village, e pain me.”
The rapper seemed resigned to his loss but couldn’t help wishing he had taken the supernatural route himself. “I for do my own juju,” he joked, hinting at his belief that some unseen force may have worked in his opponent’s favor.
Despite the light tone, Speedy’s disappointment was evident as he reflected on the match that ended far quicker than anyone expected.
While many fans speculated about the possibility of a rematch, Speed Darlington made no mention of returning to the ring or seeking a second round with Portable.
