Nigerian rapper Speed Darlington has weighed in on the ongoing controversy surrounding Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy and socialite Sophia Egbueje.
Claiming that the entire saga was orchestrated to dispel rumors about Burna Boy’s sexual orientation. The controversy erupted after a leaked audio recording surfaced in which Sophia alleged that Burna Boy had an affair with her and failed to fulfill his promise of buying her a Lamborghini.
The incident quickly became a trending topic on Nigerian social media, sparking heated discussions about the singer’s personal life.
In a video message shared via his Instagram page, Speed Darlington expressed skepticism over the authenticity of Sophia’s claims, suggesting that the scandal was deliberately staged.
He accused Burna Boy of fabricating the controversy to convince the public that he is heterosexual.
“Psssy nggaa, you’re killing yourself running up and down trying to prove to the rest of us that you’re not gay,” Darlington stated in his video, implying that the singer was going to extreme lengths to shape a particular public perception.
The rapper went further to assert that the alleged affair between Burna Boy and Sophia was nothing more than a carefully crafted script.
According to him, Burna Boy and Sophia likely collaborated on the stunt, with the singer compensating her financially in exchange for playing along.
“Na you and that girl plan that thing. I know say e go spoil your name but I go give you small money make you front like say you be olosho, make them believe say I like a woman,” he alleged, insinuating that the entire situation was a setup.
Speed Darlington also referenced previous claims he had made about Burna Boy’s Grammy win, reiterating his belief that the artist only achieved global recognition through his association with embattled American music mogul Sean Combs, popularly known as Diddy.
The rapper has long been vocal about his suspicions regarding Burna Boy’s rise to fame, often making controversial remarks about the singer’s career trajectory.
Despite Darlington’s bold accusations, Burna Boy has not publicly responded to the claims.
