Former reality TV personality Spencer Matthews is set to attempt a new Guinness World Record by running 30 marathons in 30 days through the Jordanian desert.

Now an endurance athlete, podcaster, and entrepreneur, Matthews has previously completed ultramarathons in the Amazon Rainforest, the Arctic, and the Sahara Desert. His latest challenge involves running 786 miles entirely on sand, with temperatures likely averaging in the mid-forties, starting near the Wadi Rum and finishing near the Dead Sea.

Matthews, who has battled alcohol abuse in his 20s, sees this challenge as both a personal and charitable endeavor. He aims to raise £1 million for Global’s Make Some Noise charity and hopes the ultramarathon will provide a sense of accomplishment that contrasts sharply with his past struggles.

Reflecting on his transformation, Matthews notes the significant improvement in his family’s perception of him and his relationship with alcohol, now rarely drinking and enjoying a more balanced lifestyle.

His preparation for the challenge includes weight training, long runs, and using a heat chamber to simulate desert conditions. During the record attempt, Matthews will be closely monitored by a medical team to ensure his safety.

Despite the arduous nature of the challenge, Matthews remains hopeful that his efforts will inspire others, noting the support he has already received from the public.
