Nigerian music powerhouses Wizkid, Rema, Asake, and Tems have earned nominations for the Favourite Afrobeats category at the 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs), marking a monumental moment for Afrobeats on the global stage.

Their presence on the list not only reflects the genre’s growing influence but also crowns a year of major personal achievements for each artist.

With international chart-topping records and critically acclaimed albums, these artists have consistently pushed the envelope, making them some of Africa’s most celebrated exports in recent years.

Rema, who released his second studio album HEIS in 2024, received rave reviews and secured a Grammy nomination, cementing his place as one of the most innovative voices in Afrobeats. Meanwhile, Tems released her much-anticipated debut album Born In The Wild, which also earned her Grammy recognition.

Reacting to the AMA nomination, Tems said, “It’s a blessing to be recognized for music that’s close to my heart. I’m grateful for the love, and I hope to keep representing Afrobeats with truth and soul.”

Rema also expressed excitement, saying, “This is for everyone back home believing in something bigger. Let’s bring it home.”

Asake continued his meteoric rise in 2024 with the release of his third album Lungu Boy, a genre-bending project that solidified his place in both African and international markets.

Similarly, Wizkid returned with his sixth studio album Morayo, which was praised for its depth and sonic evolution. Their joint single MMS, which has garnered global acclaim, earned them a Grammy nomination for Best African Song Performance.

“Working with these amazing artists has been inspiring,” Wizkid said in a statement. “To see our sound travel so far is proof of what we’ve always known—Afrobeats is limitless.”

The 2025 American Music Awards, now in its 51st edition after a two-year hiatus, will take place on May 25 and be hosted by Jennifer Lopez.

The event will air live on CBS. Fans can cast their votes for all award categories on VoteAMAs.com or via the @AMAs Instagram page. Voting closes on Thursday, May 15 at 11:59 p.m. PT, except for the Collaboration of the Year and Social Song of the Year categories, which will remain open during the first 30 minutes of the live broadcast.

Alongside the Nigerian stars, South African breakout singer Tyla is also in contention for the Favourite Afrobeats title, setting the stage for a tightly contested and historic race.
