A sequel to the 2006 hit film The Devil Wears Prada, featuring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, is reportedly in development. Original screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna is in talks to write the follow-up, which will reportedly focus on Streep’s character, magazine editor Miranda Priestly, as she deals with the decline of print publications in the digital age.

However, it remains unclear how many of the original cast members will return for the sequel, which is set to be made by Disney, according to Deadline.

The original film’s director David Frankel and producer Wendy Finerman are in discussions to return for the sequel. Hathaway, who portrayed one of Priestly’s assistants, expressed skepticism in March about the likelihood of a sequel.

Emily Blunt, who starred as Priestly’s other assistant, and Stanley Tucci, who played Priestly’s deputy, were also part of the original cast. The film was based on Lauren Weisberger’s book, inspired by her experience as an assistant to Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour.

The Devil Wears Prada earned Streep a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination for her role as the formidable editor, while it served as a breakthrough film for Hathaway and Blunt.

The three actresses have frequently reunited, most recently at the SAG Awards in February, highlighting the enduring impact and popularity of the original film.
