In a notable achievement, two Nigerian films, “I Hate Love Stories” and “Honey Money,” have been chosen to compete in the 2024 Zanzibar International Film Festival, marking the 27th edition of the event.
This selection is especially significant as it represents the first time since 2016 that Nigerian films have been featured at the festival.
This year’s theme, “Rejuvenation,” highlights the dynamic and revitalized spirit of African cinema.
The two films, both directed by Ekene Som Mekwunye, include “I Hate Love Stories,” a new production filmed in 2022 that will premiere at the festival, and “Honey Money,” which was released the previous year.
Fulfilment ‘Fuchi’ Nwaturuocha played a pivotal role in both projects, acting as the producer for “I Hate Love Stories” and the line producer for “Honey Money.”
Mekwunye and Nwaturuocha have a history of successful collaborations and have just completed production on “Move Like a Boss,” which is set for theatrical release soon.
Their next endeavor, “Éwọ,” a Yoruba-language film, is scheduled to begin production in October in Abeokuta.
The Zanzibar International Film Festival has curated an impressive selection of 25 films from various countries, including France, Canada, India, Kenya, Tanzania, and Nigeria.
