The United Kingdom has officially announced its entry for the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest, unveiling the country pop trio Remember Monday as this year’s representatives.

The band will take to the stage in Basel, Switzerland, performing their song What The Hell Just Happened? at the St Jakobshalle arena between May 13 and May 17. As anticipation builds for the event, Remember Monday is preparing to bring their signature sound and infectious energy to one of the world’s most-watched music competitions.

The trio, made up of Charlotte Steele, Lauren Byrne, and Holly-Anne Hull, formed their musical bond during their time at sixth-form college. Over the years, they have developed a close-knit friendship and a distinct country-pop sound that sets them apart in the UK music scene.

Their journey has taken them from small venues and online performances to a massive international stage, and now they are set to make history as the first girl group to represent the UK at Eurovision in over two decades.

The last time an all-female group competed for the UK was in 1999, when Precious performed their song Say It Again. Since then, the UK has sent a variety of solo acts and bands, but no girl group has had the chance to take center stage.

For Remember Monday, this moment is not just a career milestone—it’s a significant opportunity to break the trend and bring a fresh, energetic performance to Eurovision audiences.

Eurovision has been a challenging contest for the UK in recent years. In 2023, Mae Muller’s song I Wrote A Song finished in second-to-last place when the competition was held in Liverpool. Last year, pop star Olly Alexander performed the disco-inspired track Dizzy, but only managed to place 18th in Malmö, Sweden.

With these recent struggles in mind, the UK is hoping that Remember Monday’s unique style and heartfelt songwriting will help turn things around in Basel.

Speaking on BBC Radio 2’s Scott Mills Breakfast Show, the band members expressed their excitement and disbelief at the announcement.

“We feel like we are on another planet right now,” they admitted. “This is something we never imagined happening. What The Hell Just Happened? is honestly the perfect way to describe how we’re feeling in this moment.” Their candid enthusiasm reflects just how life-changing this opportunity is for the trio.

For Steele, Byrne, and Hull, the experience is more than just about performing at Eurovision—it’s a childhood dream come true. “When you’re a kid, and someone asks what you want to be when you grow up, one of the classic answers is always, ‘I wanna be a pop star,’” they shared.

“The fact that we get to live that dream as three best friends is just wild.” Their deep friendship, which has been the foundation of their musical journey, will undoubtedly play a huge role in their performance and overall experience at the competition.

As the UK’s first girl band entry in over two decades, the group recognizes the weight of the moment and the responsibility it carries. “We still can’t believe we’re going to be the first girl band to represent the UK at Eurovision since 1999,” they said. “It’s such an incredible honor, and we want to make the most of it.”

Their goal is not just to compete but to create an unforgettable experience for both themselves and Eurovision viewers worldwide.

Determined to stand out, Remember Monday has promised to bring something entirely new to the Eurovision stage. “We want to bring loads of fun to the contest,” they revealed. “This isn’t just about the performance; it’s about making a statement and doing something that people haven’t seen before at Eurovision.”

With their signature country-pop style and strong harmonies, they are ready to carve out a unique space in the competition.

They also emphasized their competitive spirit and commitment to making an impact on behalf of the UK. “This is really the music World Cup,” they said enthusiastically. “And we’ll do our best to bring it home.”

The UK has faced a long drought when it comes to Eurovision success, and Remember Monday is determined to change the country’s luck with a performance that resonates with both juries and the voting public.

Beyond their Eurovision journey, Remember Monday already boasts a significant following, particularly on social media. With more than 500,000 followers on TikTok and over 11 million likes, they have built a loyal fanbase that has supported their music long before this announcement.

Their engaging online presence and heartfelt performances have played a crucial role in their growing popularity, proving that they are more than ready for the global Eurovision stage.

Their television experience also gives them an edge in handling the pressures of live competition. In 2019, Remember Monday appeared on The Voice UK, where they were mentored by Grammy-winning singer Jennifer Hudson.

Though they were eliminated before the final, their performance on the show helped them gain wider recognition and industry support. Since then, they have continued to release music and grow as artists, leading up to this career-defining moment.

In recent years, the trio has released several tracks, including their well-received EP Crazy Anyway, which dropped in October 2024. They have also shared the stage with renowned artists, having performed as supporting acts for music icons like Tom Jones and rising star Dasha.

Now, with the eyes of Europe upon them, Remember Monday is stepping into the biggest moment of their career, hoping to make history at Eurovision 2025.
