Afrobeats superstar Wizkid has revealed that his favorite musician is none other than Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate.

The Grammy-winning singer made this revelation during a heartfelt visit to Wasiu Ayinde’s residence in Ijebu Ode, where he went to offer his condolences following the recent passing of the Fuji maestro’s mother.

In a lighthearted conversation with the children of the veteran artist, Wizkid was asked to name his favorite musician aside from himself. Without hesitation, he declared Wasiu Ayinde as “his favorite artist in the universe,” a statement that underscores his deep admiration for the Fuji icon.

Wizkid’s respect for Wasiu Ayinde extends far beyond mere words. The Afrobeats star praised the Fuji legend for using his music to inspire generations, including his own.

Wasiu Ayinde, whose career spans over four decades, has played a pivotal role in shaping the Fuji music landscape, blending traditional Yoruba rhythms with contemporary influences.

His contributions have not only solidified Fuji as a dominant genre in Nigerian music but have also influenced a wide range of artists across different genres. Wizkid’s acknowledgment of his impact highlights the cultural bridge between Fuji and Afrobeats, two distinct but deeply interconnected styles of Nigerian music.

Over the years, Wizkid and Wasiu Ayinde have maintained a close relationship, one that has been evident in their public interactions and musical influences. Their bond was notably reinforced during the grand burial ceremony of Wizkid’s mother in 2024, where Wasiu Ayinde delivered a stirring performance.

The event was attended by a host of celebrities, and the Fuji legend’s presence added a touch of tradition and reverence to the proceedings. Further cementing his appreciation for Wasiu Ayinde, Wizkid paid homage to him musically by sampling one of his performances in the opening track of his recently released sixth studio album, Morayo. This move reflects Wizkid’s reverence for the Fuji maestro’s artistry and his desire to weave elements of his influence into Afrobeats.

Aside from discussing his musical influences, Wizkid also engaged in casual banter with Wasiu Ayinde’s children during his visit. When asked which of his cars was his favorite, he revealed that his most cherished vehicle at the moment is his latest extravagant purchase, the McLaren 750S.

The luxury supercar, valued at over 500 million naira, stands as a testament to Wizkid’s success and penchant for high-end automobiles. His response showcased his lighthearted side, offering a glimpse into his personal interests beyond music.

Since returning to Nigeria in December 2024, Wizkid has made several public appearances, much to the delight of his fans. He has graced multiple high-profile events, including surprise performances at Olamide’s Flytime Concert, Nativeland Festival, and the Oando End-of-the-Year Party, which also featured Afrobeats heavyweights Davido and Burna Boy.

His presence at these events has reaffirmed his status as one of Nigeria’s biggest musical exports, continuously thrilling audiences with his unmatched stage presence and infectious energy. Through his music, performances, and public interactions, Wizkid continues to bridge generational gaps while paying homage to the legends who came before him.
