A new documentary chronicling the life and extraordinary career of Nigerian music sensation Wizkid is set to make its grand debut at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival.

Titled Love Live Lagos, the film captures the evolution of Wizkid from a young, ambitious Lagos-born artist into a global music icon whose sound has not only captivated millions but also opened the doors for African music on the world stage.

The documentary is scheduled to be screened on June 6, 7, and 11, giving fans and music lovers an intimate look into the journey of one of Africa’s biggest cultural exports.

Directed by renowned filmmaker Karam Gill, Love Live Lagos dives deep into Wizkid’s transformative journey, painting a vivid portrait of the man behind the hits.

The film features interviews with close collaborators and respected voices in the African music industry, including 5-time Grammy nominee Femi Kuti, veteran manager Sunday Are, business partner and manager Jada Pollock, media personality Julia Adenuga, and culture curator Seni Saraki.

Their perspectives offer insight into Wizkid’s character, the decisions that shaped his career, and his lasting impact on Afrobeat and global music culture.

Describing the documentary, Gill shared that the film is more than just a music story—it’s a narrative about identity, ambition, and a shifting cultural landscape.

This is a story about how one voice from Lagos echoed across the world,” he said. “Wizkid’s music became a bridge between cultures, and this film celebrates that global movement.”

The documentary also explores the significance of Lagos as not just a city, but a symbol of resilience, creativity, and vibrant energy that has fueled Wizkid’s artistry from day one.

As part of the festival’s lineup, Wizkid himself will be participating in a special conversation session alongside Gill.

This exclusive event will allow fans and attendees to hear directly from the star as he reflects on his career, shares untold stories, and discusses the vision behind the documentary. “It’s not just about me,” Wizkid has often said. “It’s about the culture, the people, and the sound of where I come from.”

This session promises to be one of the festival’s most anticipated moments, offering a rare glimpse into the mind of a modern-day music pioneer.

The release of Love Live Lagos comes five years after Wizkid’s short film for the deluxe edition of his Grammy-nominated album Made in Lagos, which offered a cinematic visual experience that hinted at his evolving artistic ambitions.

With this new full-length feature, Wizkid cements his place not only as a hitmaker but also as a storyteller and cultural ambassador whose influence goes far beyond music charts.

This documentary also situates Wizkid among an elite class of African musical legends like Fela Kuti and William Onyeabor, who have also had their lives and legacies immortalized on film.

It is a celebration of triumph, vision, and the enduring power of African creativity. As the global spotlight shines once again on Wizkid at Tribeca, Love Live Lagos is more than just a film—it is a testament to a legacy still in the making, one that continues to shape how the world listens to and respects African music.
