Popular social critic Martins Otse, widely known as Verydarkman, has addressed rumors surrounding the alleged disappearance of funds from his NGO.

In a video shared on Tuesday, the outspoken advocate clarified that no money was missing, and his finances remained intact. He expressed frustration at how quickly Nigerians accepted the unverified claims and criticized the insults directed at him and his mother during the ordeal.

In his video, Verydarkman remarked, “No money is missing, my money is secured. The way people are so excited about bad is really sad. I told my website guy, shut the website, let us use this people catch cruise. Nobody bothered to ask for evidence.

They just went with what is being said. I am so happy I did this.” His comments highlighted his disappointment with the public’s eagerness to believe and spread negative narratives without seeking the truth.

The controversy began on Friday when Verydarkman raised an alarm on Instagram, claiming his organization’s account had been hacked and N180 million was missing. This announcement sparked widespread reactions, with many expressing outrage and concern.

However, the critic later revealed that the hacking claims were false and appeared to have been a calculated move to test public reaction and expose their readiness to believe unverified information.

Reflecting on the incident, Verydarkman’s decision to manipulate the narrative served as a critique of societal tendencies to sensationalize negativity. By intentionally shutting down his website and fueling the false story, he aimed to draw attention to the importance of critical thinking and the dangers of spreading misinformation. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for due diligence and evidence before accepting or perpetuating rumors.
