Netflix has announced the release of the biopic “House of Ga’a,” directed by Bolanle Austen-Peters, set to premiere on July 26, 2024.
The announcement was made on Instagram on June 20, 2024, along with behind-the-scenes images. The film’s caption invited viewers to “witness the rise and fall of a ruthless kingmaker,” referring to the story of Bashorun Gaha (Gaa), a significant figure in Yoruba history.”
House of Ga’a” depicts the life of Bashorun Gaha, who ruled the Oyo empire in the 18th century using deceit and voodoo.
The film features a star-studded cast, including Femi Branch, Mike Afolarin, Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham, and others.

Bolanle Austen-Peters has been focusing on creating biopics to educate the younger generation about notable historical figures and their contributions.
This year, she also released a biopic about political activist Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti. In an interview, Austen-Peters emphasized the importance of telling Nigerian stories to provide children with a historical perspective, noting that such stories are often overshadowed by American and other international heroes.
