Lagos journalist Adeola Agoro has announced the premiere of her film, “Okikiola The Fisherman,” set for August 2, 2024. Agoro emphasizes that the film, deeply rooted in Osun culture, will not only entertain but also promote the unique traditions and beliefs of the Osun people. The story, described as enchanting and culturally rich, aims to highlight the beauty and significance of the Osun religion and capture the essence of both rural and urban life in Osun.
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has supported the film, recognizing its potential to preserve and celebrate the state’s cultural identity while attracting diverse audiences.
The film features appearances by thirteen foreigners from the US, Mexico, Spain, and Venezuela, who dance to local songs and speak the Yoruba language, further showcasing Osun culture on an international stage.
“Okikiola The Fisherman” weaves a narrative of love, greed, resilience, deceit, and the dangers of making poor decisions. The plot centers on Okikiola (Baaj Adebule), a star fisherman aspiring to marry Dunni, the beautiful daughter of struggling parents.
A twist of fate leads to a conflict between Okikiola and the Yeye Osun (Jumoke George), who seeks a wife for her son, Daisi (Bolanle Ninalowo), threatening the harmony of the community.
The film boasts an impressive cast, including notable actors such as Kunle Afolayan, Bolanle Ninalowo, Faithia Balogun, Jumoke George, and many others. It also features 13 foreigners who have embraced the Yoruba language and Osun traditions, highlighting the universal appeal and cultural richness of the story.
