Warner Bros. India and Encore Films have pleasantly surprised fans by announcing the release of Studio Ghibli’s highly anticipated anime film, “The Boy and the Heron,” in India. Directed by the legendary Hayao Miyazaki, the Academy Award-winning film will hit Indian cinemas soon, offering both Japanese with English subtitles and English dubbed versions.

This news comes as a relief to the anime community, who had faced disappointment when earlier reports suggested the film would not release in India. Despite not getting an IMAX release, fans can still look forward to experiencing the film on the big screen.

Set against the backdrop of World War II, “The Boy and the Heron” follows the journey of 11-year-old Mahito Maki as he searches for his mother in an alternate realm filled with the deceased. Guided by a mystical Grey Heron with the power of speech, Mahito navigates through a fantastical landscape.

Despite minimal promotion in Japan, relying solely on a single poster featuring the Heron bird, the film achieved remarkable success, earning accolades such as the Oscar and Golden Globe Awards. Additionally, while it’s set to premiere on Netflix worldwide, the theatrical release in India offers fans another opportunity to immerse themselves in Miyazaki’s masterful storytelling on the big screen.
