The BBC has begun removing Huw Edwards from some of its archive footage following his guilty plea to charges of making indecent images of children. This effort starts with family and entertainment content on iPlayer, as reported by the Observer.

Edwards, who was a prominent presenter on BBC One’s News at Ten and covered major national events until last year, resigned in April citing medical advice.

He admitted to possessing 41 indecent images of children, which were sent to him via WhatsApp by another man.

A BBC spokesperson noted that while they do not routinely delete content from the archive due to its historical significance, they are considering the continued use and re-use of material involving Edwards on a case-by-case basis.

The removal of certain content aims to protect audiences from repeats of Edwards’ most visible work, including coverage of significant events such as the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

An episode of Doctor Who from 2006, featuring Edwards’ voice, has already been removed from iPlayer.Additionally, a mural of Edwards in his home village of Llangennech, Carmarthenshire, was painted over by artist Steve Jenkins after the charges were announced.

Cardiff council has also removed a plaque honoring Edwards at Cardiff Castle.
