Burna Boy Makes History with Record-Breaking Spotify Streams for Solo Song Debut

Burna Boy’s new single “Higher” has set a new opening day streaming record on Spotify Nigeria. Since his international hit “YE” in 2018, Burna Boy has become one of the biggest artists globally, achieving numerous records with his songs, albums, and concerts.
“Higher” garnered 530,792 streams on Spotify Nigeria in its first full day, surpassing the previous record of 518K streams set by Wizkid’s “Diamond,” according to TurnTable Charts.
In addition to setting the highest opening day streams for a solo single on Spotify Nigeria, “Higher” also broke the record for the most opening day streams by an African artist.
This achievement surpassed Burna Boy’s own previous record set with his Grammy-nominated single “City Boy” in 2023, as reported by Chart data.Burna Boy’s continuous record-breaking feats highlight his status as a global superstar, pushing boundaries for African artists.
Earlier this year, he made history with a sold-out concert at the London Stadium, becoming the first African artist to sell out the venue twice and headline two stadium concerts in the UK.
He also set records for the highest-grossing concert by an African artist in the United States and the highest-grossing tour by an African artist in Canada.
