Duncan Norvelle, a beloved comedian known for his signature catchphrase “Chase me,” has passed away at the age of 66.

The entertainer died on Thursday in a hospital surrounded by his family, following complications from a chest infection and sepsis.

His passing marks the end of a remarkable career that spanned decades and brought laughter to countless audiences across the UK.

Norvelle’s legacy as a performer who could effortlessly capture the hearts of his audience will be remembered fondly.

The news of his death was shared on his official Facebook page, accompanied by a heartfelt note from his partner, Lynn Trevallion, and his three children, Yasmin, Jack, and Sophie.

In her tribute, Ms. Trevallion described him as “probably the last of the legends of true variety comedy.” Reflecting on their time together, she expressed her deep love and loss, saying,

I just wanted another day with him, but I didn’t want him back to suffer… I loved him so much, I never realised how much I loved him really. You don’t, do you, until you lose someone?” Her words encapsulated the profound impact Norvelle had on those closest to him.

Born in Walton on the Wolds, Leicestershire, Norvelle had been hospitalized for two weeks prior to his death. His health challenges were not new, as he had suffered a debilitating stroke in 2012 that left his left side paralyzed.

Despite his physical limitations, he demonstrated incredible resilience, returning to the stage to perform. Using a walking stick, Norvelle defied the odds, earning standing ovations at every show.

He proved to everyone that he could still get a standing ovation every single time,” Ms. Trevallion recalled, underscoring his determination and passion for comedy.

Norvelle’s career was a testament to his unique comedic style, which Ms. Trevallion described as a rarity in today’s entertainment landscape. “His type of comedy doesn’t happen anymore,” she said, lamenting the loss of an era.

“He’s probably the last of the legends of true variety comedy; so many have passed now.” Norvelle’s ability to bring joy and laughter to his audience, even in the face of personal adversity, solidified his status as an icon of variety entertainment.

Tributes poured in from friends and fellow entertainers, including Tommy Cannon of the comedy duo Cannon and Ball. Writing on X (formerly Twitter), Cannon shared fond memories of working with Norvelle.

Very sad news to hear the passing of one of my mates, Duncan Norvelle today… Fond memories working with him in summer season and recently doing a cruise with him. My thoughts go out to all his family at this time. You’ll be greatly missed mate, rest easy,” he wrote.

This outpouring of love reflects the deep respect and admiration Norvelle commanded among his peers.

Throughout his career, Norvelle performed at some of the UK’s most prestigious venues, including the London Palladium, and appeared on popular television programs such as Wogan and The Bob Monkhouse Show.

He also hosted the pilot episode of a dating show that would later become the iconic Blind Date, hosted by Cilla Black. His ability to adapt and thrive in various formats of entertainment showcased his talent and versatility.
