The Ministry of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy is in advanced discussions with Yankee Entertainment to launch the Abuja International Carnival in November 2024. During a meeting in Abuja, both parties worked on finalizing collaboration details and planning for the event.
Minister Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa emphasized the carnival’s importance to the Ministry’s goals of promoting cultural diversity and supporting the creative economy.
She expressed optimism about the project, highlighting its potential to enhance Nigeria’s international profile, foster national unity, and create economic opportunities for local artists and entrepreneurs.
Musawa noted that the carnival aims to be a sustainable attraction, drawing investments and tourism. She acknowledged the previous administration’s efforts with the Abuja Carnival and expressed a commitment to continuing and enhancing its long-term appeal.
The meeting underscored the intention to make the carnival a prominent event in cultural promotion.
Kehinde Adegbite, aka Mallam Yankee, Managing Director and CEO of Yankee Entertainment, presented the vision for the carnival, stressing its potential to showcase Nigerian culture globally.
He highlighted his organization’s experience with previous carnivals and assured that the Abuja International Carnival would surpass previous events, aiming to rival even the Calabar Carnival by bringing in international participants.
Director of Entertainment and Creative Economy, Mrs. Ugochi Akudo-Nwosu, thanked the Minister for her enthusiasm and support. She emphasized the platform’s role in showcasing Nigerian culture, creativity, and the Ministry’s efforts in the arts and creative economy.
The carnival will feature various activities, including street shows, musical concerts, boat regattas, Durbars, children’s fiestas, and exhibitions.
Both the Culture Ministry and Yankee Entertainment are dedicated to making the Abuja International Carnival a landmark event in Nigeria’s cultural calendar. The carnival is set to take place in Abuja in November 2024.
