D’banj, Yemi Alade, and Olamide Performs at African Military Games Opening Ceremony

The 2024 African Military Games (AMGA) kicked off in Abuja on 20th November, 2024 with a star-studded opening ceremony featuring four iconic Nigerian artists: D’banj, Olamide, Yemi Alade, and Timi Dakolo.
This musical quartet, known for their electrifying performances, took the center stage to entertain athletes, military personnel, and spectators from across the continent. Their presence adds a vibrant cultural touch to this prestigious event, showcasing Nigeria’s rich talent and artistry to a global audience.
The 2024 African Military Games hosted participants from 25 countries, emphasizing the unity and camaraderie of Africa’s armed forces. Athletes will compete in 19 different sporting events, with most taking place at Abuja’s Moshood Abiola Stadium.
However, specialized activities like obstacle crossing and shooting was held at alternate venues to ensure safety and precision. These games celebrate not only athletic excellence but also the spirit of cooperation among military personnel across the continent.
Organized by the Organization of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA) in collaboration with the International Military Sports Council (CISM), the African Military Games have grown significantly in stature since their inception.
This year’s edition fulfilled their promises of being bigger and better, blending military discipline with the excitement of competitive sports. The event also highlights Africa’s commitment to fostering peace and unity through sports.
Notably, this is not the first time these music legends have graced international sporting stages. D’banj delivered a memorable performance at the 2013 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) closing ceremony in South Africa, where Nigeria’s Super Eagles clinched victory.
Similarly, Yemi Alade captivated audiences by performing the official soundtrack and opening ceremony for the last AFCON in Ivory Coast. With such a lineup, today’s opening ceremony is set to be an unforgettable celebration of African talent and resilience.
