Former Film Mogul Harvey Weinstein Charged with Hotel Sexual Assault
Harvey Weinstein has appeared in court over a new sexual assault charge, accused of attacking a woman in a New York hotel in 2006. This new indictment was announced shortly after he underwent emergency heart surgery to remove fluid from his heart and lungs.
Prosecutors have clarified that the new charges are separate from the case that led to his overturned #MeToo conviction in 2020. Weinstein, now 72, appeared in a wheelchair in court, wearing a dark suit and a blue tie, with a large bandage on his right hand.
He pleaded not guilty to the first-degree felony charge, emphasizing his stance that any sexual activity was consensual.
The indictment alleges that Weinstein forced a sex act on a woman at a downtown Manhattan hotel between April 29 and May 6, 2006.
