Rupert Murdoch’s Fox Corporation is set to launch Tubi, a free streaming service in the UK to compete with Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+. Funded by advertising, Tubi will offer personalized streaming experiences, similar to its successful model in North America where it boasts 80 million active users.
The service promises a vast library of over 20,000 films and TV episodes, described by Fox as one of the UK’s largest and most diverse content collections.
While specific titles weren’t disclosed, Tubi pledges a mix of blockbusters, original content, and lesser-known gems, tailored to British audience preferences.
It plans to feature programming from major studios like Disney, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, and Sony Pictures, alongside Tubi Originals such as ‘Big Mood’ starring Nicola Coughlan, and a variety of content including Bollywood, Nollywood, and arthouse cinema.
Tubi aims to differentiate itself through personalized recommendations driven by machine learning technology. It will be accessible on major smart TV platforms, iPhones, Android devices, and web browsers in the coming weeks, with a planned marketing campaign starting on July 15.
This marks Fox’s first foray into ad-supported digital TV in the UK, following Tubi’s competitive performance in the US, where it has rivaled Disney+ in viewership according to Nielsen’s viewing trends report.
