Nigerian filmmaker Gbenga Adeoti’s short film “Baby Factory” won the Best Film on Human Trafficking and Migration award at the 2024 Africa Films for Impact Festival (AFFIF). Despite its success at several film festivals, Adeoti expressed his reluctance to release the film to the public.

In a post on Instagram, he shared his joy about the win and acknowledged the hard work of the “Baby Factory” team.

His words:

“I’ve been very stubborn about releasing this short film BabyFactory since 2022, but I’m very glad it won the category for Best Film on Human Trafficking and Migration in the Africa Films for Impact Festival AFFIF2024. Congratulations to all the nominees and the BabyFactory team.”

Adeoti, an alumnus of the EbonyLife Creative Academy and founder of Filmjoint, is a trained theatre practitioner, screenwriter, cinematographer, video editor, and events and production manager.

His other works include “Bruised,” “If Only,” and “Sidi.” “Baby Factory,” written by Benita Imohimoh, features a cast that includes Mercy Aghedo, Onaopemipo Olatunde, Victoria Odoyi, Oluwabunmi Awolowo, Crystal Claudius, and Ezekiel Abayomi.

The African Film for Impact Festival aims to showcase and empower films and filmmakers committed to social change themes.

“Baby Factory” addresses the issue of human trafficking in Nigeria, focusing on young women exploited for baby-making by a madame who profits from selling their babies on the black market.

Adeoti has not yet announced a public release date for the short film
