The Edo State government has decided to honor Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, by naming the proposed Edo Arena after the pop star. This decision was announced during the groundbreaking ceremony for the arena, where Rema was seen laying the foundation stone.
The arena, which will be named Rema Dome, is part of a larger celebration of the singer’s much-anticipated homecoming concert in Benin. Rema was joined by Governor Godwin Obaseki and other government officials at the event, highlighting the significance of this honor in his hometown.
Rema’s homecoming concert is set to take place on August 30 at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, marking a major milestone in his career. The event follows an earlier attempt by Governor Obaseki to host the singer in December 2023, which was canceled due to health concerns.
Rema first gained recognition in 2018 with a viral freestyle of D’Prince’s song “Gucci Gang” on Instagram, and he officially debuted in 2019 with the hit single “Dumebi.” His return to Benin has been met with great excitement, underscored by the fanfare surrounding his arrival and the state’s decision to name a major venue in his honor.
