A prominent Iraqi social media influencer, known as Om Fahad or Ghufran Sawadi, was tragically shot and killed while sitting in her car outside her home in Baghdad’s Zayouna district.
The assailant, riding a motorbike, approached under the guise of delivering food before opening fire, leaving Om Fahad dead and her assistant injured. CCTV footage captured the gunman walking up to the vehicle and shooting before fleeing the scene.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to apprehend the perpetrator. Om Fahad gained popularity on platforms like TikTok for her lighthearted videos, often featuring Iraqi music and dancing.
It will be recall she faced legal trouble in the past, receiving a six-month prison sentence in February the previous year for sharing videos deemed to contain “indecent speech.”
This incident comes amidst a broader campaign by the Iraqi government to regulate social media content perceived as conflicting with societal norms and values.
