Netflix has announced the release of a new sequel series, “Òlòtūré: The Journey,” which will premiere on June 28, 2024.
This follows the original 2019 film “Òlòtūré,” which depicted the story of a young journalist undercover as a sex worker in Nigeria, aiming to expose corruption and navigate a dangerous path to Europe.
Directed by Kenneth Gyang, the series stars Sharon Ooja-Egwurube, Omoni Oboli, Beverley Osu, and others.
The original film “Òlòtūré” premiered at the Carthage Film Festival in Tunisia on October 31, 2019, and was later acquired by Netflix, beginning its streaming on October 2, 2020.
It quickly became one of the top 10 most streamed films globally on Netflix a day after its release.
The series is produced by EbonyLife Studios as part of Netflix’s partnership with Mo Abudu’s studio, which includes the creation of multiple original series and films, such as “Blood Sisters.”
Mo Abudu founded EbonyLife Studios in 2014 and has produced several notable Nollywood films, including “The Wedding Party” and “Chief Daddy.” The story of “Òlòtūré” is based on an investigative report by journalist Tobore Ovuorie from Premium Times.
