Nigerian actors Theo Somolu and Folake Olowofoyeku are set to star in Disney’s highly anticipated prequel to The Lion King, titled Mufasa, slated for release on December 20, 2024.

Their involvement in the project marks a significant moment for Nigerian representation in Hollywood, although specific details about their characters have yet to be disclosed.

Folake Olowofoyeku brings a wealth of experience to the production, having impressed audiences with her performances in various films and television series, including the popular sitcom Bob Hearts Abishola (2019) and the epic adventure 10,000 A.D.: The Legend of the Black Pearl (2008).

Similarly, Theo Somolu’s previous projects, such as the children’s television program Mighty Express (2020) and Baggio: The Divine Ponytail (2021), contribute to his expertise in the industry.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Barry Jenkins, known for his work on Moonlight and If Beale Street Could Talk, Mufasa promises to explore the untold story of Simba’s father, Mufasa, shedding light on his journey from a vulnerable cub to a mighty king.
