Emeka Rollas, the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), confirmed the tragic passing of Nollywood actor John Paul Odonwodo, also known as Junior Pope, after he and three colleagues fell into Anam River in Anambra while returning from a movie location on Wednesday.
Rollas shared the heartbreaking news on his Instagram page, expressing deep sadness over the loss. Despite efforts by two notable hospitals to revive Junior Pope after noticing his tingling fingers, he could not be saved.
Born on May 7, 1984, in Bamenda, Cameroon, Junior Pope spent his formative years there before moving to Nigeria. He completed his education at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, graduating with a degree in Accountancy before joining Nollywood in 2006.
Junior Pope quickly rose to prominence in the Nigerian movie industry, known for his roles as a guard and servant. His breakthrough came with the 2007 film “Secret Adventures,” directed by Tchidi Chikere. Since then, Junior Pope has appeared in over 100 movies, showcasing his talent across various genres such as “Mad Sex,” “Bitter Generation,” and “Vengeance of Bullet.”
His passing is mourned by the entertainment industry and fans alike, marking the loss of a talented actor whose contributions will be remembered and cherished.
