Ryan Moloney, the actor who has portrayed Toadie Rebecchi on “Neighbours” for nearly 30 years, is stepping down from his iconic role. Moloney, 44, joined the Australian series in 1995 as the mischievous teenager Jarrod, known affectionately as Toadfish.

He has been a consistent presence on Ramsay Street but now plans to transition to a new role on the series as a director. While Moloney remains with the show’s production team, he hinted that Toadie might return in the future.

In his statement, Moloney expressed excitement about his new behind-the-camera role and shared that he has completed his first episode as a director.

Throughout his tenure, Toadie was known for his time at Erinsborough High and his numerous get-rich-quick schemes. In a major 2003 storyline, Toadie accidentally drove off a cliff on his wedding day, with his wife presumed dead for nearly 15 years.

The plot thickened when a woman, revealed to be his ex-wife’s identical twin sister, appeared on his doorstep with his teenage daughter. “Neighbours,” which launched in 1985, ran until 2022 when it was canceled after UK broadcaster Channel 5 dropped the show.

However, the series was revived by Amazon for its streaming service Freevee and relaunched in September 2023.

“Neighbours” reached a peak of popularity in the 1980s and 1990s, gaining a cult following, particularly among students in the UK where it was aired twice daily on BBC One.

The show has been a launching pad for numerous stars, including Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe, Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Guy Pearce, Natalie Imbruglia, and Holly Vallance.
