Esteemed journalist and broadcaster Thulasizwe Simelane is set to host the flagship breakfast show “The Morning Brief” on SAfm, starting September 2. Simelane, known for his sharp reporting and engaging style, will bring a unique mix of news, current affairs, and in-depth interviews to the show.
“The Morning Brief” will air on weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., offering listeners a dynamic and informative start to their day. With Simelane at the helm, the show is poised to engage its audience with vibrant discussions on key national, continental, and global issues.
Simelane’s return to broadcasting comes after a brief departure from the media industry. Last year, he transitioned into a corporate role as the spokesperson for Takatso Aviation, which was involved in an unsuccessful bid to acquire South African Airways.
Now, with fresh experiences from the corporate world, Simelane is excited to re-enter the media space, bringing a broader perspective to his journalism. He aims to use this experience to deepen his understanding of complex issues and sharpen his ability to question power brokers in politics, international relations, and business.
The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has expressed excitement over Simelane’s appointment, highlighting that “The Morning Brief” is designed to keep listeners informed and engaged on critical issues as they begin their day.
The show is expected to be a key player in shaping public opinion and helping listeners make informed decisions on various topics. Radio Fortune Combo Business Manager, Anthony Soglo, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that Simelane’s factual and engaging style of content delivery will be essential in growing SAfm’s audience during a pivotal moment for the country as it celebrates 30 years of democracy.
Simelane himself has voiced his enthusiasm for this new role, stating that his time away from broadcasting has enriched his understanding of the world. His recent experiences in the corporate sector, combined with his ongoing professional growth, have equipped him with new insights into politics, international relations, and the law.
This, he believes, will enable him to ask sharper questions and engage more effectively with the influential figures shaping South Africa and beyond. As Simelane prepares to step into this role, SAfm listeners can look forward to a refreshed and invigorated voice leading their mornings.
