Harikumar, a veteran Malayalam director and screenwriter, passed away on Monday evening following a prolonged battle with cancer.
He breathed his last at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, leaving behind a legacy of impactful cinema that spanned several decades.
With a career that began with his directorial debut in 1981 with “Ambal Poovu,” Harikumar directed a total of 18 films, collaborating with esteemed screenwriters such as M T Vasudevan Nair, Lohithadas, Sreenivasan, and Kaloor Denis.
Throughout his career, Harikumar directed notable works like “Sukritham,” “Udyanapalakan,” and “Jalakam,” with “Sukritham,” written by M T Vasudevan Nair in 1994, earning critical acclaim and winning the National Award for Best Malayalam Film.
In addition to his directorial prowess, Harikumar also showcased his talent as a screenwriter, contributing to the scripts of several of his own films. His final directorial venture, “Autorickshawkarante Bharya,” starring Ann Augustine, was released in 2022.
