George Lucas will be honored with an honorary Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in May, marking a special recognition for his contributions to cinema. The announcement was made by festival organizers, who revealed that Lucas will receive the prestigious award at the closing ceremony of the 77th French film festival on May 25.

This acknowledgment places Lucas among a distinguished group of recipients, including Harrison Ford, Michael Douglas, Tom Cruise, Forest Whitaker, and Jodie Foster, who have been recognized for their significant impact on the film industry.

Expressing his gratitude, Lucas shared his personal connection to the Cannes Film Festival, highlighting its importance in his career. He recalled the excitement of his first film, THX-1138, being selected for the Directors’ Fortnight program and reflected on his subsequent engagements with the festival as a writer, director, and producer.
